Zimbabwe : Parliament Examines Proposal to Extend Presidential Term Until 2030

The Zimbabwean Parliament is examining a bill aimed at extending President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s term by two years, allowing him to remain in power until 2030. The government-sponsored text also proposes increasing the presidential term length from five to seven years. The initiative, supported by the head of state’s allies, has nevertheless drawn criticism from the opposition and some veterans of the liberation war.
