Mauritania: Presidential pardon granted to nine detainees linked to terrorism cases
President Mohamed Ould Ghazouani granted a pardon on Friday, June 19, to nine detainees convicted of terrorism and extremism, including perpetrators of the 2007 Aleg attack. The decision follows a repentance manifesto signed by several Salafist prisoners who pledged to renounce violence and respect state institutions. Five other signatories, deemed too dangerous, remain in detention.
