Africa: Senegal Backs Macky Sall’s Bid for UN Secretary-General

In a statement released on 20 July 2026, Senegal announced its full support for the candidacy of former President Macky Sall for the position of United Nations Secretary-General. Following a meeting between Bassirou Diomaye Faye and Macky Sall, the Senegalese president instructed the government and the country’s diplomatic network to actively promote Sall’s candidacy among UN member states.
